In its budget for this year the Warsaw town hall has earmarked record sums of money for restoration of important sites in the capital.

So far, it was mainly the restoration of sacral buildings that was subsidized. But with the Euro 2012 approaching, the authorities want to give the capital city a complete makeover and will even provide considerable sums of money for restoration of privately owned buildings of historic interest.

The EU is also willing to provide financial aid. Residents of a historic tenant house in Targowa Street in the Warsaw district of Praga have already applied for it.
